Rye crispbread topped with cream cheese and sundried tomatoes.
Crispbread and flatbreads are light and crunchy, stay fresh for a long time, and are traditionally made from rye flour. Today, however, many kinds of crispbread contain wheat flour, multi-grains, seeds, and spices. Crispbreads are typically low in fat and calories and are a good source of dietary fiber. Whole grain varieties are a good source of antioxidants, vitamins, phytoestrogens and minerals.
You can find many different varieties of crispbread and flatbread – light rye, sesame, sourdough, multigrain, wholegrain, pumpkin seed, flax seed, mixed seed, sunflower seed, oats – and a multitude of seasonings – cinnamon, currants, olive oil and sea salt, chive, herb, chili pepper, black pepper, or sweet onion.
